Human Scale Printers (“HSP”) is a 100% black-owned family business established in the 1986. The company operates a fully black-owned and managed operation, offering end-to-end digital and lithographic printing and packaging services.
These services are supported by a fully equipped in-house design and graphics facility. In addition, we offer an extensive range of finishing techniques, ensuring consistently high-quality finished products
background
The business was started by Mr. GB Buthelezi after he had established an Umlazi Drawing Office which was an architectural design an plans business at Umlazi. As he was serving the community, he identified a growing need for printed materials, which inspired him to expand into the printing industry. The printed business was then started with the aim to service the township community, contributing to the industrialization and empowerment of Black owned businesses.
In the 1990s, the business relocated from Umlazi to Prospecton, which proved to be a turning point as HSP acquired the internal printing press from Toyota, which allowed us to take over their printing operations. To this day, we remain a supplier of printing services to Toyota.
Building on that momentum, we later acquired the internal printing press of what was then Hulett Aluminium in Pietermaritzburg. This acquisition enabled us to establish a second branch, expanding both our capacity and geographic reach. To this day, we remain the supplier for printing services to the now known Hulamin.

Our goal is to become a recognized Training Provider in the Industry, focused on upskilling in printing, design and packaging.
